How To Add Google +1 To Your Blog – Using Sharebar
Posted on 06. Jun, 2011 by Dereck Arreguin in HowTo

Today I want to show you how to install the google +1 button on your blog using Sharebar (the floating bar on your left). But before you start applying all the steps, there is something you must know. The google +1 application will help others to find you based on recommendations of their connections.
But there is an even more important reason why. If you are planning on using google Adwords, here, now or in the future, this might actually have a major part to play in your ability to keep advertising costs low and traffic high.
Steps You Must Follow
- Visit the Google Site (CLICK HERE) and select your button size
- Copy the code
- Log into your wordpress blog dashboard
- Open sharebar controls
- Click on Add New Button
- Give it a title, give it an order placement, and paste your code
- Select the buttons to enable
- Update & check
Now that your blog is all set up, you can feel safe knowing that when others share your content (who use a gmail account – and that are logged in), their friends and connections will have a better idea of things to look at.

Hi Dereck,
I’d bookmarked this blog to come back to later, because I wanted to add Google+. But then I upgraded my Digg Digg plugin, and saw that they have already added it. Wow, they are fast! But for those who have sharebar, this is a GREAT tutorial. Thanks!

Thanks for the clear instructions, Dereck. I got stuck on Step 7… didn’t see an Enable button… but I’ll come back later and I’m sure I’ll succeed, thanks to your video.

I use Digg Digg. When the +1 button first became available, I had to add it manually. But I use Thesis Theme and they a tutorial up on the first day.
But I just updated my Digg Digg plugin and they have added it already.

Derek-
Thanks so much for the tutorial. This seems pretty easy to do and I am definitely going to try it out soon. I have not heard of +1 before, but it seems very beneficial. Thanks again.

Good stuff, Dereck.
I didn’t know about Google +1, but will certainly check it out now. Especially knowing its benefits with Adwords.
Thanks for the post.

Hi Dereck,
thank you so much for drawing my attention to this latest Google addition.
In what way is this different to the google buzz?
Digg digg has most of those buttons .
Is the difference that the +1 appears behind the search result on Google?
Much appreciated.
To your success

Got it installed and it’s cool to see it working.
I, too, wonder how this will impact search results, etc.
Looking forward to seeing how it unfolds.

Great post, Dereck! This seems like a really great idea to build a following and to help search engines. It’s good to see that Google is doing something to help people in other ways after the infamous slap.

Hey Dereck, it will be interesting to see how google +1 will integrate with all the social sharing and whatnot. Since Google is still the largest search engine, you can see how they could quickly catch up with facebook and twitter as far as interacting with users. Time will tell. Thanks for the info!

Hi Dereck,
Never heard of Google +1 until I read your blog. Thanks for the heads up- I see that Digg Digg has added it- makes it even easier to implement.

Hi Dereck, great stuff and thank’s a lot for this little new tutorial. Google now pulled along and created their own little share imperium (took them a while… LOL). After I went through your instructions I went into my backoffice to add this to my existing share options I have on my site, but I’m using Digg Digg and for my surprise they already implemented this button already into the plugin, so I just had to tick the box and voila all was done (no coding to work with). Thx again for bringing this to our attention. All the best, Alex

Awesome tutorial Dereck,
I don’t have time to read long drawn out articles and I appreciate the quick and simple video to get this plug-in installed. It took me literally 3 minutes, thanks.
How do you add the Facebook Like button?
I tried to use the code from the developers site but no luck.

Hey John,
If you are using sharebar, it should already be implemented into the actual plugin. Try that before adding anything.
Let me know if that helps.

Hi Dereck,
You are so fast! The tool just came out and you are already teaching us how to implement it–I love it! Just like Lori I am also using Digg Digg but you are making a great case for switching to ShareBar. Google has tried to get more involved in social sharing several times so I’m really interested to see if +1 catches on. The more strong contenders we have, the better the social marketing space will be for everyone. We don’t Facebook to own all the traffic, do we?
Have a great week, Alelgra

Hi Dereck! Google +1 looks like a very interesting concept! I’ll definitely look into it more. I am currently using Digg Digg instead of Sharebar – but I like that Sharebar lets you add your own buttons. Thanks for sharing this! Lori
