How To Turn A Laptop Into A TelePrompTer
Posted on 20. Feb, 2011 by Dereck Arreguin in HowTo
Sometimes when learning how to create your own videos, it’s hard to express the right message and share your exact thoughts in a timely manor. (Normally your videos should be under 3 minutes – I break this rule too).
So, today I wanted to show you how to use your laptop (must have on screen camera) as a teleprompter to share your message the way you want to.
WATCH THIS SHORT VIDEO
SOFTWARE TO USE PC/MAC
- PC – Powerpoint
- MAC – Keynote
Since I use a mac, I’m particle to using this and for this training tutorial will provide instructions for it only. However the video does “hint” on what to use.
5 STEPS FROM VIDEO
- Open software and create a new project
- Write small one liners on individual slides
- Record the slide show File > Record slideshow
- Position laptop under camera (if you don’t have one)
- Hit record on camera and play on presentation
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Use a remote (find one at your local electronics store)
- Edit your movie and upload it to youtube or other video sharing site.
That’s it! Take action and have fun.

I am not doing video marketing but hope to in the near future but more so, screen caps and stuff like that but I will definitely have to keep this in mind, I came across a article or post or something some time ago and never paid much attention to it.
You could also use Mac’s version of powerpoint as well, or Open Office which I think is for both operating systems.
A wireless mic would come in very hand as well to click from slide to slide.

I’m glad you liked it!
Starting with video is never easy, but when there’s a problem… we entrepreneurs know how to answer back.
We always do!

Nice technique, Dereck.
It is especially helpful, as you point out, to people that haven’t done too many videos.
In the beginning, you struggle for words, and having some displayed will help you get through the production. In time, you get into the flow and it gets easier.
