The Power of Exposure & Social Proof

Marketers today have a big challenge ahead of them! As internet and home based business owners engage online in the millions, it’s hard not to notice the blatant disregard and spammish techniques used by most to promote products and or opportunities.

Take for instance the use of Twitter. Originally designed to spread information in a small “mico blog” update, it has quickly turned into a small ad and affiliate laced sales machine.

But it doesn’t stop there as some beginner marketers also completely damage their reputation before it even begins on the worlds most popular social network, facebook.

Sometimes feeling like it’s predecessor (myspace), facebook allows people to find others and request a friend request. However, it can’t prevent the “by my stuff” and “I thought I’d help you out by signing you up in my business” messages you sometimes receive within minutes of accepting your new friend.

These spammish techniques are quickly catching the attention of powers at be. The little known company named Google, has recently announced that they will be indexing your search results based upon your social graph. Meaning, those who you are already connected with online, will be the bases on which your search results are shown.

In an interview on NSNBC, successful entrepreneur and New York Best Selling Author Gary Vaynerchuck, spells out the power of todays social exposure. He says…

“Businesses are on the verge of being humanized”

“1 on 1 marketing is here” – Gary Vaynerchuck

But for most today, who are engaging online for the first time, they have almost no social acceptance or exposure. This undoubtably is the reason why so many use the promotional tactics seem in todays main stream nueva riche marketing.

Spam Them Till They Buy or Leave In Total Disgust

So how does someone new to the power of online marketing? Well, even with the change to the Social Graph API, the majority of all search results will be based on relevancy based on the term used in the search. Meaning, if you type in “red shoes” in a search engine, you’ll still receive a search result for that keyword.

However, the list of websites and or links that the search provides you are still very well based upon, what some consider, to still remain the key information found on the web  today. This would undoubtably be articles, blog posts, facebook note postings, web 2.0 sites and forums. All of these methods provide a way for others to comment and share, allowing the power and influence of that particular article to increase.

So where should someone new to marketing online turn?

It’s simple, learn how to write valuable content and provide a means of social exposure for acceptance and increase the chances to be heard. This allows the marketer to not only gain credibility, but also leverages the modern technology to spread the word all that much quicker.

In todays world filled with skepticism, offering information in a way like writing articles provides a stable base and transparent opportunity for todays online marketer. In my FREE book, called the 5 Step Internet Blueprint, I go into details about how to get started writing effective articles.

Once learned, you can then apply that viral ability to populate a blog, create a hub pages article, submit an article to an article directory like ezines and so on. And it just so happens to be, how the old is now the new way of doing business.
