Video Production – 4 Video Marketing Secrets of The Modern Age
Posted on 04. Jul, 2011 by Dereck Arreguin in Internet Marketing

Video is quickly taking over the internet as we know it. With services such as YouTube, TubeMogul and TrafficGeyser, it is now possible to rank for certain keywords with your videos. You can sign up for TrafficGeyser and give it a full test drive on the other side of this link.
However, what is still not mentioned about openly outside of closed circles is how to keep your viewer engaged.
In this blog posting, we’ll be exposing some of the more modern “secret” and modern methods to not only improving your viewership, but also sharing you message.
Detailed Explanation of These 4 Secrets
1.) Short Shots – Anything around 4 seconds of still camera shot is good. Even if you cut it down to 2 or increase it to 6 seconds, your chances of entertaining your viewer increase. The simple reason is, it keeps your viewers eyes moving. You can also use the same footage and edit the shot for a quick zoom in and zoom out to help with the same effect.
2.) Clear Audio – Studies have shown that it is more likely to keep your audience watching if you have clear audio over clear visuals. Even when a crisp clean shot is golden, if your viewer can’t hear what you are saying… it’s pointless. Consider using a cordless mic, one that I recommend is the Audio-Technica ATR 288W. I have personally used this mic and can tell you that it’s well worth the investment.
3.) Clear Visuals – With more and more pocket cams becoming more and more popular, there’s no wonder why Kodak is giving Flip a run for it’s money.
Now, it’s possible for almost anyone to own a high res digital camera capable of filming and recording almost anything. The extremely affordable and powerful camera I suggest anyone looking to get started with video is the Kodak Zi8.
This little campera has a 1080P high res capability along with an external mic output (normally not found on cameras under $1,000). With a few additions like a tripod, extra battery, memory card and caring case… you can have a portable pocket size movie maker that will rival other cameras that cost 4 times the amount.
4.) Story Boarding – Not commonly known or talked about within the home based business arena, story boarding allows the viewer to travel from one video to the next. Here you can give your viewer the option of making a decision or going further on the venture.
In the video above, I link to FreddieW’s new youtube video where he also places a story mode into his video. This active hyperlink within the video is created inside of the video editing section of youtube and is called an Annotaion. The only unfortunate thing about it is, you can only link to other videos inside of youtube itself.
However, this gives you the chance to captivate your viewers even more, plus it will also increase your video views and increase the opportunity to generate additional income or exposure.

You constantly amaze me with your drive for new technology or new methods of improving your marketing. This one looked like it was fun !
I picked up the Ki8 and promptly dropped it so my screen is 1/2 the size it should of been. Darn and double darn.
Thanks again Dereck.

Great pointer, Dereck. I really think audio is tremendously important to our videos. I am always aware of poor audio quality in videos. Sometimes the volume is too low to hear, or there are many noisy distractions.
Of course, it is better to get the video published, and then improve upon our early videos as we develop more expertise. That’s what I am doing.
My initial efforts were amateurish and full of errors. But I got them out there, and I am glad I did. It helped me to develop a web presence, and to get comfortable behind the camera.
Thank you for your insights and pointers.

Dereck, very well done. You have tough me how to imagine unlimited techniques that I had forgotten. It was like that light bulb went off.
Your video is amazing and to the point. Audio rules and Visual is accepted a a lower level. Keep the eyes moving and all will be well.
Thanks for the updated light bulb moment. Dereck, I really look forward in learning so much more from you. I love how easy this video usage is to explain to all my team. I will just send them here and answer questions as they work their way through steps to accomplish each project.
This is a hands on moment and I love it. This is going to leverage my time huge.
If there is anything I can be supportive, Dereck let me know. This is a life saving location. Thanks for sharing and keep it coming.

Hello Dereck,
Pretty kool tricks with the movement in your video.
I also like how you held the small video in your hand, or it appeared like you did.
I have not done much with video but i do have a web cam. I need to get me a still camera to be able to take shots outside my office.
Video is becoming quite popular.
Cheers

Dereck,
You are amazing. I can’t believe that you made that with a Kodak. I have been looking for a good video camera and you have certainly sold me on the Kodak. You information on just one post is so packed full that I will have to study it for a week. I could spend hours on your blog to excel my blog to even a fraction of your level.

Cool video Dereck, I like the quick cuts, for me it just seems to keep the video going rather than one long shot and edited together, good stuff.
The Zi8 looks like a nice little camera, maybe even a replacement for the Flip cam as the decided to stop making it, although I have never created any videos I see it in my future as screen recording and tutorial type stuff. Although I have a Flip I kind of got free with a marketing program I bought sometime ago I havent shot any videos that I have saved I do have pros and cos about it.
The Zi8 looks like a nice on the go camera maybe even a stationary camera as well but I am curious if there is any cons or improvements on the camera you might change etc

Hey Derek ~ I love this post. I’ve wanted to do more with video for quite some time but never before in as a succinct fashion has anyone really been able to explain it and excite me about it all in one fell swoop.
I especially like the story-boarding and the focus of really getting your viewer interested in what it is you have to say. Loved the video and have subscribed to his videos as well.
And as a motorcycle travels down the street not too far from my open windows I am reminded of how I hate listening to those noises when people are recording videos, even audios.
Thanks for an inspiring post.

Man that was awesome footage Dereck! I’m glad I decided to stop by and visit your blog site.
Thanks for this new (and very modern) knowledge on video stuff. I’m gonna implement some of your teachings on my videos.
I visited the link to FreddieW’s video…it was sooo exciting. I’ve always wanted to get into photography AND video so tha’s why this particular posts excites me. The short shots tip you gave really is something that I was JUST thinking about literally a couple hours before coming to your blog and was wondering how to incorporate such a feature on my future vids.
Changing up our position or location when we’re talking makes so much sense in capturing our viewers attention. I know I am more stimulated and I was more aware of your message in your video here.
Thanks so much again for your unique secrets on video Dereck!

Hello Dereck
Thanks for sharing these tips, smashing…
I’m really loving video for the way it can leverage our time these days.
We’ve started to build a video ‘how to library’ for providing answers questions that get asked frequently. Our clients really appreciate these tiny video tutorials which show them just what they need to know and no more too.
I also echo your comments on the Kodak Zi8 we have one and it’s super easy to use.

Hey Dereck, I second the recommendation to use an external microphone for the audio – makes a ton of difference in the sound quality. I’ve been using the Kodak Zi8 for a while. It’s a shame they discontinued it, but it’s still available in many places and a great buy.

My new discovery are the teleprompter apps for the iPad, iPhone and Droid. That way when you want to follow a script you can easily set it up to scroll on your device.
So far I’ve been researching them to find my favorite.

Well done Dereck, you’ve really laid out a great list here. I’m especially glad to see your comments on clear audio – which happens to be my personal hot button. I can’t count the times I’ve attempted to watch a video on YouTube and left because the audio was disfunctional. I’ve made notes – thanks for the inspiration!
